What is BMI?
BMI stands for Body Mass Index, and it’s a simple way to measure whether your weight is healthy for your height. Think of it as a general health indicator.
Here’s how it works:
- Measuring Up: Measure both your weight and height and place the numbers below. Make sure to use the Adult BMI calculator if you are over 18, otherwise use the Child calculator.
- What do they mean?: After you calculate your BMI, you’ll get a number. This number falls into different categories:
- Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
- Normal weight: BMI 18.5 – 24.9
- Overweight: BMI 25 – 29.9
- Obese: BMI 30 and above
- Why It Matters: BMI gives you a quick snapshot of your body fat and helps determine if you’re at a healthy weight. It’s a useful tool because being underweight, overweight, or obese can lead to health issues like heart disease, diabetes, and other conditions.
